Employee Journeys

J.Mansfield

(Park House Head of Centre)

Following early career choices that centred around inclusive sport delivery, an opportunity arose at Phoenix Park and Sevenhills Academies for a Physical Education (PE) teacher to lead PE and Sport across the three sites in North East Lincolnshire. This role created an exciting opportunity to develop and implement a curriculum to support the SEMH needs of students from KS2-4. During this period I benefited from opportunities to connect with colleagues from the trust through network meetings whilst exposure and involvement with national initiatives ensured I could disseminate current and up-to-date information with the teams that I worked with. The curriculum offer, which was inclusive of regular trips/visits and fixtures developed exponentially, raising the profile of PE, physical activity and sport across the academies. My unwavering attitude to support student’s holistic development and to continue my professional development journey culminated in opportunities to deliver at the National Schools Sports Conference and the completion of a MA in Inclusive Education specialising in Alternative Provision PE.

This experience leading and developing a curriculum area resulted in an internal promotion, following a successful application and interview process to become Deputy Head of Centre at Sevenhills Academy (KS3 provision). During a two-year period that involved adaptations to procedures, leadership, cohorts, an influx of new students and an OFSTED inspection the school progressed beyond recognition to the thriving Academy that exists now. I am pleased to share that I now sit proudly as Head of Centre at Park House (KS4) for the 2024/25 academic year and relish the challenge and opportunity that leading a site within Alternative Provision presents.

PD Rowe

(Care Team Phoenix House)

My journey at Phoenix Park Academy started in September 2023 when I was successful in securing a PE apprentice role at Phoenix Park through Aspire Plus.During the first few months I was observing PE lessons and deployed as a TA in the classroom throughout the day. As I grew in confidence I started to take a more lead role in the PE lessons and became more involved in classroom activities. I would help students with reading and give 1 to 1 support if students were struggling. Further into the year I took full responsibility and leadership of all PE lessons delivering sports such as boxing, football, dodgeball and gym exercises. At the end of the academic year I was asked to plan and deliver a whole school sports day which was a success as all students took part and everyone enjoyed the day. My biggest personal success was witnessing students who would historically refuse to engage in learning and physical activity, grow in confidence over the course of the school year and fully participate in all activities. Seeing and being part of this was truly amazing.

In June 2024 I applied for the role of care team at Phoenix House and was successful in getting the role. Having just started I am excited to learn new skills and help the students in different ways such as home life and while in school. Throughout my time at Phoenix I have been helped by my colleagues, who have guided and supported me through any difficulties I have experienced. The staff are like one big family. This has helped me an unbelievable amount. I can honestly say that I am thriving, privileged and so excited to be part of the team at Phoenix Park Academy.
